Surge Protectors

January 11th Fact-of-the-Day

A variety of devices used to limit power-line voltage surges can be classified as surge protectors. Power utility companies install various types of lightning arresters on power distribution lines and associated equipment primarily to protect their own equipment, but those arresters also serve to reduce the amplitudes of lightning-strike and lightning-induced surges transmitted to homes and businesses. Homes and business generally should have two additional types of power-line surge protection. They should have service-entry surge protection and point-of-use surge protection. Both are available in several physical forms and utilizing a variety of different technologies that have a complexity of advantages and disadvantages. ©2005 Martek International All rights reserved.
