Electromagnetic Horns
November 22nd Fact-of-the-DayElectromagnetic horns have two primary communications applications. One is to function as an antenna. The other is to illuminate a parabolic reflector. Optimum designs for those two applications tend to be rather different, so it is important to know the intended application when following design recommendations. When used as an antenna the most important considerations generally are maximum directivity and gain with minimum size. When illuminating a parabolic reflector, efficiency illuminating the reflector evenly with radiation of uniform phase tends to be more important than directivity or gain. ©2004 Martek International All rights reserved.
