Lithium-Ion Batteries

December 9th Fact-of-the-Day

Lithium-ion (Li-Ion) batteries have twice the charge density of nickel-cadmium batteries. They can be recharged approximately 400 times. They do not have discharge memory like nickel-cadmium and certain other types of batteries, so there is no need for deep-discharging to preserve performance. They have longer runtimes, lighter weights, and less self-discharge than any other battery available to consumers. They are 'environmentally friendly,' because they do not contain mercury, cadmium or other toxic material. Their only significant disadvantage in most applications is comparatively high cost. ©2004 Martek International All rights reserved.
