Tower Guy Grounding

The importance of tower grounding to lightning safety is well known, but many overlook the importance of tower guy grounding. Lightning that has jumped a long distance through the atmosphere will have no difficulty whatsoever jumping the short additional distance across any number of tower guy insulators. Because of that, tower guys should not go near or connect to anything lighting will damage and each guy should be grounded at a minimum by a 3/8-inch diameter by 9-foot ground rod. Multiple buried ground radials from each guy anchor point will provide additional protection. ©2004 Martek International All rights reserved.
