Buried Power Service

September 29th Fact-of-the-Day

Not only do buried power lines tend to radiate significantly less radio-frequency noise than aerial power lines, buried power lines subject electronic equipment to significantly less risk from lightning strikes. There are two reasons for that. (1) Lighting induces less energy into buried lines. (2) Buried lines have about one-tenth the surge impedance of aerial lines which tends to greatly reduce the amplitudes of transmitted voltage spikes. ©2004 Tigertek, Inc. All rights reserved.
