Microsoft released an unusually large number of security patches yesterday, including patches for Windows, Windows Media Players 9 & 10, Internet Explorer, PowerPoint for Windows and Mac OS X, Word for Windows, Office, Works Suite, and Exchange Server Outlook Web Access. They also released a new version of their malicious software removal tool. These updates remove serious vulnerabilities that could let an attacker execute arbitrary computer program code on your computer, so installation is critical if you use any of the programs listed above.

These updates should install automatically if you have Windows set to automatically install updates. If not, you should go to the Windows Update page immediately and install them. If you are not sure whether they have been installed, the Windows Update page will check your computer to find what has already been installed and will list any updates that are still needed.
