My Norton Antivirus subscription just expired. I used to like their Antivirus program but it seems to hog more computer resources and make computers run slower with each update.
I spent hours reading antivirus product reviews on the web yesterday. I am more confused now then when I started because reviewers have lots of opposing views, but I did learn that I am not alone in thinking Norton's product has become abysmal.
I decided to ask for recommendations from actual users here. Which Antivirus program do you use? What do you like and dislike about it? What do you recommend?

I can't tell you which anti-virus program to get, but I can't tell you which one not what to get. McAfee VirusScan 2008 came on a new computer I bought earlier this year and its update program is joke compared to Norton's. I also haven't liked Norton Antivirus in the past, but at least Norton has an automatic virus file update program the works.

I haven't used it myself, but Kaspersky Internet Security is very popular here in Europe. Maybe a Kaspersky user could let us know how they like it.

I Use AvGuard which is a free download for home users. I didn't like the tracking cookies Norton and McAfee left on my computer and paying every year to update. I'm just CHEEP!

I used AvGuard for a couple years and it worked great except that it attached advertising at the bottom of each e-mail message I sent. I recently bought a new computer that has Norton Antivirus installed, so I am using that now, but I probably will go back to AvGuard when the Norton subscription runs out, because I think Norton's renewal fee is rediculous.

I have been using Kaspersky on two computers for several months and have been very pleased with it. Its initial scan following installation found a Trojan Horse that the Norton Antivirus program I has just removed hadn't found. Kaspersky is a little annoying sometimes with warnings about Microsoft files having been changed after installation of Microsoft security upgrades, but I would rather have a few false alarms than suffer the grief that malicious software can cause.
