End-fed broad band inverted V

by azflyman » 15 Dec 2004, 17:05

Greetings,

B&W has a broad band end-fed inverted V antenna. It shows a RF transformer on one end and a balancing network (balun?) on the other end. What would the transformer and balancing network consist of? I am new to antenna building and would like to construct one of these as I do not have the $209.00 to buy one. I do have wire and ferrite. Any help would be appreciated.

What type of feed-line is the antenna fed with? An end-fed inverted V antenna would be unbalanced. Maybe they are using a balan so the antenna can be fed with balanced twin line.

An end-fed inverted V would have a high feed impedance at most frequencies, but most balans made with toroids are designed to be used a relatively low impedances. Do you know whether the antenna is fed via a toroid balan?

I used a B&W end-fed inverted v antenna for a while. Maybe it was the location, but it didn't work very well for me.

No end-fed broadband antenna will be very efficient. At frequenices where the antenna impedance is low it won't be possible to have a low-loss ground connection for current to flow into unless the ends of the antenna are near ground, and ground losses will be high if the antenna ends are near ground. At frequencies where the antenna impedance is high, feedline impedance matching transformation losses will be high.
