Fear Looms Over Scientist's Experiment to Uncover Secrets of 'Big Bang'
A British physicist has claimed he can explain the secrets of the Big Bang Theory, but his controversial experiment has scientists believing he could bring about the end of the world, the U.K.'s Daily Mail reported.
Evans' ambitions, however, have brought widespread concern among scientists who say the experiment could create a shower of unstable black holes inside the Earth, and subsequently bring destruction to the planet.

There is a longer article about that experiment at the Daily Mail site.

Though some scientists have expressed concern, I think the consensus opinion among scientists is that there is little or nothing to worry about.

I agree...
I was listening on 80m this evening and the topic was in most conversations .. this then made me check this out. But as I found it is very limited on the net.as you say the consensus opinion among scientists is that there is nothing to worry about. I know nothing of what this will do or not do...but the Mr average this way is making sure that this news is made public especially on the radio. It has not been mentioned on the News this side even though this is a Brit scientist doing his thing!I know a lot of scare mungering will take place through this and the people that predict the end of the world will now have or want to say there thing.Experiments of this nature have taken place ,..with media and mostly with out media ..but if this is an enclosed explosion in a scientific environment, what is the problem...when I first listened to the conversation on 80m I thought this was happening in free space,..now that would be some thing to worry about,...any how these guys said if we see a above normal light ..then this is of concern,.. but as stated it will take another 4 years for humbug to happen!Personally I think this is just scare mungering from other saucers on this planet!..lets hope so..

The experiment has started and the world is still here, although opposing beams of protons haven't actually collided yet.
