I have an Icom 740 and have sent it to the factory and had it gone threw and in my note to the tec. I stated that on the receive, when ever I was tunning and came across a fairley strong station it would sound good and as I tuned for the strongest sig. I would loose it for about 100kc then it would come back in. It just seemed like it was overloading the receive but the tec. said no. If I tune to the center of the sig. strengh there is no sound, but if I go either side, the sound comes back. Not all stations are like that but most of the strong ones are. What's my problem?

That certainly isn't normal. Does it happen with all receiving modes such as AM, USB, LSB and CW or only when using a particular mode?

I haven't realy tried any of the other modes only CW, but one thing I have noticed is that when tunning for CW and I come across an SSB station it is easy to tune it in clear as a bell with the switch still on CW. When the switch is in CW mode and I come to a SSB sig. and tune it in clear,if I switch to SSB I half to retune it down or up a few KC to get it in clear. I guess you can tell by my answers that I am not much of a tec. but age and short term mem. loss has made me this way, but I still love CW and would like to stay on the air as long as I can. Thanks WB8VMW

Well after three trips to Icom my 740 works fine. I think I liked my HW 101 better but maybe after I get use to the Icom it will be alright.
