Firefox Audio and Video Streaming Support

by admin » 16 Sep 2006, 23:22

Firefox users often send messages via the Contact Us page complaining they are not able to hear receiver audio or watch NASA TV. The S-Meter site has supported Firefox audio and video streaming for some time. Streaming problems usually are due to not having a correct plugin installed. Firefox does not have built-support for embedded media players, but plugins that give Firefox that capability are available for the most popular players. Do the following if you are not able to hear the receivers or watch NASA TV using Firefox:

1) Check to be sure Windows Media Player Version 9 or 10 is installed on your computer. Windows Media Player is available from Microsoft here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/10/default.aspx without charge.

2) Click the Firefox Help menu and then select Check for Updates to be sure you are using the most recent Firefox version.

3) Click the Firefox Help menu, select About Mozilla Firefox, and make note of the version you are using.

4) Read this mozillaZine Windows Media Player knowledge base article http://kb.mozillazine.org/Windows_Media_Player.
.
5) Download and install the plugin needed by the version of Firefox you are using from here http://www.iol.ie/~locka/mozilla/plugin.htm#download.

6) Close and restart Firefox.

7) Go to one of the S-Meter site receiver audio pages http://www.smeter.net/receive/receive.php and after a short period of data buffering you should hear receiver audio.

8) Go to http://www.smeter.net/nasa/tv.php and after a short period of data buffering you should see NASA TV.
