I can't receive any audio

Find current on-line receiver status, ask for help using the receivers, and communicate with other receiver users.

I can't receive any audio

by Dowser01 » 28 Nov 2005, 15:03

I can't receive any audio from any of the receivers, I think because I'm behind a fire wall.
I'm using I.E. 6.0

Anyone know what PORT the audio is using?

Thanks,
Keith

Audio Streaming through a Firewall

by admin » 28 Nov 2005, 16:19

Only port 80/tcp needs to be open in your firewall to receive audio from S-Meter site audio feeds. Port 80/tcp is the same port used by standard HTTP web pages. If you can load standard Internet web pages, you don't need to open a firewall port to receive S-Meter site audio.

However, you must use Windows Media Player 9 or 10 running under Windows. The Mac versions of Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player are not able to play the streams.

Bob,

I can listen to the two Dallas recorded feeds only. All the rest of the feeds
never buffer any data and default to a ready state in Windows Media Player.
I downloaded Windows Media Player 10 and it made no difference.

Recorded & Live Audio Stream Differences

by admin » 29 Nov 2005, 20:20

Keith,

The live receiver feeds and the Pahrump receiver recorded session are sent as media broadcast streams. The two recorded sessions from the Dallas receiver are sent instead as audio files that are downloaded temporarily to your computer hard disk and then played locally from your hard disk, so the technologies are different. Downloaded Dallas receiver files probably can be played on systems that are not able to play the live broadcast streams (Mac for example). Are you using Windows? Are you using Windows Media Player 9 or 10?

All 115 Pahrump receiver broadcast stream connection slots are taken much of the time during evening hours. All available connection slots also are sometimes taken on the receiver broadcast feeds. However, it is very rare for all connection slots to be taken on all the receiver broadcast feeds simultaneously.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the reply.
The live streams are still not operational.
I am running Windows Media Player V10 and I.E. 6.0.
I assume the streams are *.ASF(x) format and this file format is linked to Windows Media Player in my explorer.

However I do have Total Recorder 5.2 on my computer (Pentium 4) which runs Microsoft Windows XP Pro Version 2002.

Total Recorder 5.2

by admin » 30 Nov 2005, 15:56

Keith,

I have never used Total Recorder and don't know much about it. It is my understanding that it obtains audio from a sound card and gives users the option to record it. That shouldn't interfere with reception of the S-Meter site receiver streams if that is the way it works. However, if it instead accesses remote media servers and then passes media streams to Windows Media Player it probably would interfere with receiver audio stream reception.

1) What type of Internet connection are you using?

2) Are you able to play the recorded streams at http://www.smeter.net/slc/reception/examples.php?

Bob,

I am able to play the example streams you suggested with no problems.
I have a Full T1 account.
Yes, Total Recorder does work off the sound card, I didn't think it would cause a problem but it's part of the system and I thought you should know I have it.

"Can't hear the PaHrunp Receiver

by stoovin » 07 Jan 2006, 23:33

Guys, I think their "65 user" user slots, are full of 66, or many more, and other users, plus many more "slow dial-up users", like me.

So that's what we got going for us.

Supported Number of Listeners

by admin » 08 Jan 2006, 00:06

The Pahrump receiver currently supports 115 simultaneous listeners. Each of the other receivers supports additional simultaneous listeners. It is true that all the receiver connection slots are taken sometimes, especially late at night. However, it is rare that all receiving slots on all receivers are full.
