SLC Receiving Site 60 MPH Wind Forecast

by admin » 27 Jan 2008, 08:27

60 MPH (97 km/h) wind is forecast for the Salt Lake City receiving site later today (afternoon and evening, Sunday, January 27, 2008). The antennas haven't been damaged by winds exceeding that speed in the past, but antenna damage from wind can vary considerably depending on wind duration, wind direction, gust strength, and gust frequency; so there could be damage this time even though the antennas here have survived similar wind speeds in the past.

Weather Front to Arrive Later than Expected

by admin » 28 Jan 2008, 15:49

Wind speeds due to a major winter storm front moving into the Salt Lake City area were previously forecast to peak Monday afternoon or evening. However, the storm front is now expected to arrive late Monday morning and that is when winds speeds associated with the storm are now expected to be highest.

Measured wind speeds at the Salt Lake City receiving site have been unusually high since Monday afternoon, but so far peak wind gusts have been only in the 35 to 40 MPH (56 to 64 km/hr) range. 60 to 70 MPH (97 to 113 km/h) wind gusts are likely over the next three hours.
