5 BTV ant. coax run.

Postby jcummings » 01 Aug 2009, 15:30

I am installing my new 5BTV in my back yard and would like to know how the best way to get my coax form the ant. to my house. The base is about 8ft. form the basement wall( my radio room is just inside the wall) the only thing is I have a side walk between the base of the ant and the wall. The only way that I can see to do it is to run the coax up the ant. about 6ft and over to the wall. Am I making trouble for myself? One more thing I can only go in one direction, from the ant. base,I can go N. about 30ft. but can only spread 25ft is there any use in putting any radails.

Is your sidewalk butted right up against the house's concrete foundation wall without an inch to spare?

Does this sidewalk also double as a one car driveway for a garage too?

Why are you placing the 5 BTV antenna so close to your house?

Are you dealing with Zoning C, C & Rs?

Radials will enhance / improve the electrical performance of the 5 BTV vertical antenna, in fact of every antenna system.

I would not highly recommend attaching the coaxial cable 6 Feet up the vertical portion of the Hustler 5 BTV antenna because that is a part of the radiating / resonant tuned (circuit) element on all bands. I would not even take a wild guess what your VSWR may appear like, and how much unwanted stray Radio Frequency Interference would be in your radio shack and throughout the rest of your house. Getting rid of the unwanted stray RFI will be a bigger headache and perhaps a nightmare more than you could even imagine.

Thanks for the info. I moved my ant. out away form the house and ran the coax around the end of the side walk and up the wall , under the edge of the siding (vinyl) over to the hole and into the shack. I only have room for about 3 radials so I put one at 34 ft. and one at 16 and one at 12 , the 12 is what I had left over. Thanks again untill next time when this elmer runs into trouble.
