SLC Receiver Remote Control

Receiver users who are inconsiderate to others can expect their control access to be permanently blocked. The receiver remote control privilege is sometimes abused by people who seem to derive enjoyment from interfering with other users. Your remote control privilege may be automatically blocked by watchdog software if you engage control activity that seems to have that purpose.

Avoid Having Your Control Access Blocked
The receiver is a shared asset. There are multiple simultaneous listeners more often than not. What would be the reaction if you walked into a room where several people were listening to something on a radio and you suddenly tuned it to a different frequency, especially if you tuned it to a frequency where there was nothing but noise noise and you left it there? What would happen of one of them tuned the receiver back to what the group had been listening to and you immediately changed it again?

Listen Before Tuning
To avoid having your control access blocked, listen a while before making a change. Try to determine whether others are trying to check their own signals before making a change. If you change the receiver and someone immediately changes it back, you will know the receiver was in use. Let them continue with what they were doing. Do not engage in control contests or your control access will be permanently blocked.

Don't Hog the Receiver
On the flip side, don't hog the receiver for long periods of time. If you have been using it a while and someone else makes a change, let them make it.

Select kHz or MHz
Be careful to enter frequencies correctly. Everyone makes occasional mistakes. If you make one fix it. If you enter 125.7 kHz instead of 125.7 MHz, don't leave the receiver tuned to noise. Correct your mistake.

Select appropriate reception modes
There is absolutely no use of FM, LSB, USB or CW in the VHF Civil Aviation Band, for example, yet many users change to those modes. If you make a mode selection mistake fix it. Don't leave other users listening to noise or garbled audio. If you don't know the reception modes used at various frequencies, learn that before using the receiver.

Reset as a Courtesy
If the receiver is tuned to a readable signal, make note of the frequency and reception mode in use before you make a change. If you tune to frequency where there is noting to hear, change it back as a courtesy to other listeners, because they have no way to know when you are finished.

Be Considerate
The underlying rule is be considerate to other users. If you are not, expect your control access to be permanently blocked.
