Receiver Noise FiguresOctober 9th Fact-of-the-Day
The importance of receiver noise figures tend be very different depending on the frequencies being received. Low receiver noise figures are easy to achieve at low frequencies and external noise levels from lightning discharges, power line radiation, cosmic sources, and other causes tend to be high enough below VHF to mask the internal receiver noise of almost any receiver. The situation is different at VHF and higher frequencies because attainable receiver noise figures decrease with increasing frequency and external noise levels from the causes previously mentioned tend to decrease. As a result, LF, MF and HF receiver noise figures tend to not be very important and VHF, UHF and microwave receiver noise figures tend to be very important. ©2004 Martek International All rights reserved.
