Dipole Arrays with ReflectorsDecember 18th Fact-of-the-Day
Dipole arrays backed by tuned reflectors are very difficult to tune, because complex mutual impedance relationships cause very strong interactions between reflectors and radiators. The complex relationships of those mutual impedances also cause element length and spacing adjustments for minimum backward and maximum forward radiation to be different. The simplest solution is to use a neutral (untuned) reflecting screen rather than tuned reflectors. That reduces the number of variables that must be adjusted and increases the front-to-back radiation ratio that can be achieved at maximum forward gain. ©2004 Martek International All rights reserved.
